Bangor
Last year, local librarian Dorothy McDusty was reshelving books (and occasionally shooing away overly curious spiders) when she made a discovery that sent a shiver down her very sensible cardigan. Hidden behind a stack of 'Advanced Sheep Whispering' manuals was an ancient tome with a cover so dusty it nearly qualified as a biohazard. Inside, Dorothy found a map to a long-lost vault, and instructions that read like a mix of pirate lore and bizarre dance choreography. The map claimed a treasure lay somewhere in Bangor, but to find it, one must follow clues like "Locate the bench where pigeons hold board meetings" and "Seek the tree that looks like it's seen some serious drama." The town is now abuzz with eager treasure hunters, all hoping to strike it rich - unless, of course, they get distracted by Bangor's infamous chip-stealing seagulls. So, are you ready to solve the clues and outwit the local wildlife? Good luck - you'll need it!

This Trail starts at the Tourist Information Centre on Quay Street located close to the scenic harbour. The route leads you around the famous museum and green parklands before finishing at the working pier.

Navigating The Route
This is a circular Treasure Hunt through Bangor’s bustling town centre, harbour, marina and parkland, with explorers following pavements and well maintained paths as they work through Dorothy McDusty’s increasingly questionable clues.
The route is fully accessible, with smooth paths and gentle gradients throughout, making it suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.
⚠️ Important: You will be travelling through busy town areas, crossing roads and walking along sections of open harbour and marina, so explorers should use crossings where available, stay alert at all times and keep younger adventurers under close supervision. Take extra care near the water’s edge and around working harbour areas.
Getting There
Time to gather your explorers and begin the quest:
By car: Quay Street Car Park or Marina Car Park (BT20 5EY) - both are close to the start, so your crew can leap into action without a long trek.
By public transport: Bangor is well served by bus and rail links, with the town centre and harbour area within easy walking distance of the start point.
Your quest begins at the Visitor Information Centre (Tower House), Quay Street (BT20 5ED) - so step into position and start scanning for your first clue straight away.
Need the Loo?
Even the most seasoned explorers need a quick pit stop!
Toilets can be found near Clue 01 beside Quay Street car park, which is also close to the finish, and there are additional facilities at Bangor Castle roughly midway through your quest.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged explorers are welcome on the quest.
With a mix of town, seafront and parkland paths, it’s a great outing for dogs - just keep leads handy near roads, crowds and especially along the harbour.
Food & Drink Stops
Treasure hunting is hungry work!
You’ll find plenty of cafés, shops and places to grab refreshments as you move through the town centre and seafront, so it’s easy to keep your crew fuelled and morale high.
It’s still a wise move to bring along snacks - just in case someone gets peckish… or a seagull gets ambitious.

The local museum along the route is free to enter (Tuesday to Sunday) and makes a great optional stop if your crew fancy a quick delve into local history mid-quest
