Aberfoyle & Kinlochard - Scenic Cycle

Navigating The Route

This is a cycling Spy Mission around Aberfoyle and Kinlochard, with Agents taking on Dr Badden-Madd, who has planted a device to make the scenery look like a built-up city, and as a stealthy cyclist you need to follow the clues and crack the code to switch it off.

The operation covers 10.5 miles and should take around three hours to complete. You'll start outside Aberfoyle iCentre Visitor Information, complete a short walk around Aberfoyle, then continue the cycling route out towards Kinlochard and the Loch Ard area before returning back towards Aberfoyle at the end.

This Trail is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchair users. The route is mostly flat, but it is mainly a cycling route along B-class roads, with no pavements along the B829 and later sections on unclassified and B-class roads without cycle lanes or paths.

Main Street is the principal road through Aberfoyle and can be busy. Take care with other road users throughout the mission, especially when stopping to answer clues.

Getting There

By car: Begin your mission at Aberfoyle iCentre Visitor Information (FK8 3UQ). If you have arrived in Aberfoyle by car, park at Riverside Car Park off Main Street (FK8 3UX).

By public transport: Make your way to Aberfoyle iCentre Visitor Information (FK8 3UQ) to begin the operation. The route returns back towards Aberfoyle at the end.

As this is a cycling route using B-class roads, unclassified roads and stretches with no pavements, plan carefully for how canine recruits will travel safely. Keep them well away from traffic and take particular care when stopping for clues along the B829 or on roads without cycle lanes or paths.

Code-cracking cyclists have a few refuelling options. There are several places to eat in Aberfoyle, and the Wee Blether Tea Room in Kinlochard is recommended.

One seasonal note for hungry Agents: the Wee Blether Tea Room in Kinlochard is closed between November and Easter.

St Mary's Church

St Mary's Church was built by local quarrymen who came to the area from Ballachulish in the mid 1800s to work in the slate quarries. Working in their spare time and for no pay, they started building in 1892 and completed it in 1893 - a fine bit of dedication for Agents who like their intel with local grit.

Loch Ard and Kinlochard

The Loch Ard area has serious screen credentials. It has been used for many film locations, including 'Rob Roy' (1953), 'Geordie' (1955) and '39 Steps' (1955). More recently, Susan Boyle filmed the video for her single 'Perfect Day' outside Kinlochard Village Hall.
