Detective Mystery Trail
Detective Mystery in Sevenoaks... Or is it all a Seven Hoax?
Top Detectives needed to stop a scandal that could rewrite history from the roots up.
Sevenoaks Library’s finest researcher, Leif Mealone, has made a startling discovery: the town’s name may be wrong. There were originally TEN oaks, not SEVEN! But before Leif could reveal the truth, he was found slumped beside his desk with a ledger clutched in his grasp.
Chief A. Corny Copname suspects foul play, and one name has shot to the top of the list: tourism chief and bestselling author Oakie Lee-Doakily. If Sevenoaks becomes TENoaks, his latest book could be chopped down before it even reaches the shelves. Can YOU uncover the truth before this case barks up the wrong tree?
Detective Mystery Through Sevenoaks
Pull on your detective hat and prepare to investigate your way through Sevenoaks town and Knole Park. Beginning at Sevenoaks Library and Museum, your self-guided case will lead you through bustling streets, hidden corners, The historic Vine and The Shambles, then into the grand grounds of Knole Park and House.
Along the way, you’ll solve sneaky clues, rule out innocent suspects and eliminate unused evidence until only the culprit remains. Expect mixed terrain, steps, grassy paths, deer-spotting opportunities and plenty of knotty twists along the way.
Can YOU crack the clues, expose the truth and stop Sevenoaks’ very leafy scandal from being buried for good?

Navigating The Route
This is a circular Detective Mystery through Sevenoaks town centre, gardens and into Knole Park, with sleuths following pavements, pathways, grassy areas and woodland routes as they work to uncover who had the most to lose from a rather awkward historical discovery.
The investigation includes uneven paths, grassy sections and steps, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Important: You will be travelling through busy town streets, crossing roads and later entering parkland with uneven terrain, so detectives should use crossings where available, stay alert at all times and keep younger team members under close supervision.
Within Knole Park, wild deer roam freely - admire them from a distance and do not approach.
Getting There
By car: Sevenoaks Town Car Park (TN13 1LZ) is the closest parking to the start of your investigation.
By public transport: Sevenoaks is well served by bus routes, with the bus station located nearby on Buckhurst Lane, just a short walk from the start point.
Need the Loo?
Even top detectives need a comfort break during a long case!
Toilets can be found at the bus station near Clue 03, at The Vine (around Clue 05) and later near Knole House (around Clue 17), giving you several handy opportunities to pause as your investigation unfolds.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged detectives are welcome on the case 🐾
With a mix of town streets, gardens and parkland to explore, it’s a great outing for canine companions - just keep leads handy near roads, when exploring near the wildlife of Knole Park and in busier areas.
Food & Drink Stops
There are plenty of places to grab refreshments in the town centre (around Clues 02-03 and again from Clues 09-13), making it easy to refuel during your investigation.
If you fancy a break, you could pick up supplies and enjoy a picnic at The Vine or later in Knole Park - just keep one eye on your snacks… and the other on the local wildlife.

The Vine and Historic Green Spaces
The Vine offers a great open space to pause mid-investigation, with centuries of local sporting history and a relaxed spot to regroup before pressing on. Howzat!
Knole Park and Grand Surroundings
The National Trust owned Knole Park provides a dramatic final stretch to your case, with sweeping parkland, historic architecture and roaming deer adding to the atmosphere. The grounds are free to enter but you can pay to explore the house itself if you aren't NT members.
Tudor History and Hidden Stories
From Saxon origins to grand estates, Sevenoaks is packed with stories - making it the perfect backdrop for a mystery where the truth has been buried for far too long.
