Ready for an adventure?

A trail of clues awaits in

Edinburgh

Legend has it that John Gray, the master of Edinburgh's beloved dog Bobby, left behind a secret treasure in the Old Town area. It's said that Bobby stood guard over his grave to protect this treasure, but after his death, the treasure map and clues were lost. Now, the Intrepid Explorers Society (IES) has uncovered these clues and needs your help to find the long-lost treasure of Bobby's master!

Treasure Hunt Through Greyfriars & Grassmarket

Embark on an exciting self-guided treasure hunt through the historic and picturesque Greyfriars & Grassmarket area of Edinburgh. As you explore the city, you'll follow a series of clever clues that will lead you to the location of the hidden treasure.

But be warned, the treasure won't be easy to find. The clumsy grave-robbers who originally found the treasure map have scattered the clues throughout the city, making it a challenge for even the most intrepid adventurers.

Start your journey in Greyfriars, where John Gray and Bobby were laid to rest. From there, you'll make your way through the bustling streets of Grassmarket, keeping your eyes peeled for the sneaky clues hidden in plain sight.

Do you have what it takes to solve the clues and uncover the long-lost treasure of Bobby's master? The adventure awaits!

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

The Trail is friendly for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Unfortunately, this Trail enters areas where dogs are prohibited, so we would not recommend bringing your four-legged friends along.

The closest long stay pay and display car park to the start of the Trail is the St John's Hill NCP (EH8 9UL), just a 10-minute walk away. Or why not try one of Edinburgh's fantastic Park and Ride services?

There are some fantastic events in Edinburgh's calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful city. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail may become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions - especially during the Fringe Festival. If you would like further information about event dates, please contact Edinburgh Visitor Information.

Public toilets are available at the start and middle of the Trail, and there is a myriad of cafes, restaurants, pubs and other eating establishments throughout the route. The Meadows make a fantastic picnic spot if the weather is nice!

Why not make a day of it by visiting Mary King Close or St Giles Cathedral along the way? You could even challenge yourself to another Trail adventure to uncover more twisting tales about this amazing city!

Mini Explorer Club

We have three super duper themed Clubs for your child to enjoy as part of their Treasure Trail experience.

Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
