What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Please Note - Don't attempt this Trail after heavy rains as parts of the Trail will be impassable due to flooding. It could be muddy in places too around the marina.

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Spy Mission around Upton upon Severn’s historic buildings, town centre, riverside paths and marina, with Agents racing to uncover the deactivation code before Dr Horrid’s soggy scheme puts the whole town in deep trouble.

The mission covers approximately 2 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. Operatives will be sneaking through the town centre, along the riverside, over Upton Bridge, beside the marina and back through the historic streets. This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs, as there are steps to tackle along the route. Light pushchairs should cope, although your squad may need an extra pair of hands in trickier spots.

⚠️ Important: Agents will need to cross roads carefully, patrol close to the river, pass areas of open water and use riverside paths where extra care is needed. Keep younger recruits and canine colleagues under close supervision at all times, especially near the Severn, the marina and any open water.

Getting There

Time to gather your undercover squad and begin the operation:

By car: The mission starts from the car park opposite the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, beside the Upton Rugby Club building (WR8 0JQ), using ///slab.hats.conforms.

From the car park, cross the road carefully to reach the church and begin your first assignment.

Need the Loo?

Even elite field agents need a tactical comfort stop now and then. Toilets are available around Clue 06, with another opportunity after Clue 14 later in the mission.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged agents can join this riverside operation 🐾

This outdoor mission includes town pavements, riverside paths, marina-side sections and quieter green spaces. Keep dogs on leads near roads, the river, the marina and busier pub or cafe areas, and check individual refreshment stops before taking canine recruits inside.

Food & Drink Stops

Saving Upton from a watery disaster is hungry work!

The town has plenty of pubs and cafes where your squad can refuel, whether you need undercover chips, emergency cake or a well-earned drink after dodging the Nasties. If you have packed your own provisions, there is a riverside picnic stop just after Clue 09, perfect for a pause before the mission pressure rises again.

Want to Make a Day of It?

The Riverside

The River Severn is at the heart of this mission, with waterside paths, river views and reminders of Upton’s long relationship with flooding. Keep your spy senses sharp here - it is scenic, but open water is never to be underestimated.

The Pepperpot and Heritage Centre

The route takes Agents close to the Pepperpot, one of Upton’s best-known landmarks. The Heritage Centre Gardens are also part of the mission, offering a chance to uncover more of the town’s past while keeping a careful lookout for any lurking Nasties.

Upton Bridge

Upton Bridge plays a key role in the route and remains the only Severn crossing for many miles. Its strategic importance has made it a vital crossing point for travellers, townsfolk and, in earlier times, armies too.

The Marina

The mission slips around the marina basin, giving your squad a different view of the town and river. It is a good spot for a steady patrol, but keep younger agents close near the water while gathering intel.

Historic High Street

The later part of the route explores Upton’s historic streets, with 17th century buildings, literary links and plenty of character tucked into the town centre. Keep your cover story ready - the Nasties could be hiding in plain sight.

Festival Town

Upton knows how to blow its cover in style. The town hosts several lively festivals, including folk, jazz and blues events, making it a brilliant place to return when the mission is complete and the town is safely above water.
