What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Detective Mystery Adventure around Eastbourne’s seafront, gardens and town streets, with Detectives helping Chief Inspector Bobby “Boulders” Brass investigate the suspicious case of cleaning firm manager Dusty Kornas.

The investigation covers approximately 1.9 miles and should take around 2+ hours to complete. You’ll follow clear paths and pavements along the seafront before heading into town, passing the pier, Carpet Gardens, bandstand, Wish Tower, Wilmington Square, Devonshire Park area, theatres, squares and streets before returning towards the promenade.

This Trail is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. The route uses clear paths and pavements, but you’ll still need to take care at road crossings, along busier stretches and around the seafront where plenty of other visitors may be busy enjoying their own seaside stakeouts.

Getting There

Time to gather your squad and begin this squeaky-clean investigation:

By car - There is pay and display parking on the seafront, or at Trinity Place car park nearby (BN21 3BZ).

Begin your inquiries on the seafront next to the pier entrance (BN21 3EL), using ///leopard.breathed.mainly. Stand at the entrance to the pier facing the sea, and your first clue will be nearby.

By public transport - Make your way into Eastbourne town centre or seafront, then head for the pier entrance to begin the case. The route starts right on the promenade, making it a handy seaside launch point for your investigation.

Need the Loo?

Even the most polished Detectives need a comfort break. Toilets can be found near the pier entrance and next to the bandstand around Clue 03, so there are handy facilities near the start of the investigation before the case heads further along the seafront and into town.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged Detectives can join the outdoor investigation 🐾

This route follows promenades, gardens, pavements, town streets and road crossings, so keep canine colleagues close and under control throughout. Take extra care along busier seafront sections and when crossing roads, especially if your sniffer dog gets distracted by chips, gulls or suspiciously unattended ice creams. Please note that you will need to check the bylaws around dogs on the beach.

Food & Drink Stops

Solving a dirty deed can leave the whole squad feeling peckish.

Snacks can be picked up around the pier at the start and end of the route. There is also a cafe near Clue 08 and a few places to pause around Clue 11. For a proper seaside breather, you could pack a picnic and enjoy it on the beach once your evidence-gathering has reached a suitable snack interval.

Want to Make a Day of It?

Eastbourne Pier

The investigation begins beside Eastbourne Pier, giving the case a classic seaside start. It’s also a handy place for refreshments before or after your clue-hunt, with the promenade stretching out ready for your squad’s first sweep.

Wish Tower and Seafront Lawns

The route goes past the Wish Tower, one of the Martello Towers built in the 19th century to defend against Napoleon. The surrounding seafront lawns and views towards Beachy Head give Detectives a fine place to pause between clues.

Devonshire Park, Towner Art Gallery and Congress Theatre

As the case moves inland, you’ll pass close to Eastbourne’s cultural quarter. The Towner Art Gallery and Congress Theatre are both recommended extras if your squad finishes early or wants to turn the investigation into a fuller day out.

Wilmington Square and Theatres Area

Wilmington Square, Carlisle Road and the theatre area add a grand town-centre flourish to the case. With historic buildings, performance venues and elegant streets, it’s a good stretch for Detectives who like their clue trails with a little architectural polish.
