More Information:
Essential Intel
Please allow plenty of time to complete this Trail before dusk, as the Castle Mound and Cae Glas Park gates are locked then.
Navigating The Route
This is a circular Spy Mission around Oswestry Castle Mound and town, with top Agents helping save the Oswestry Balloon Carnival by following the scattered clues around town to deactivate Dr Madden Badd's weather-controlling device before he can spoil the festival by controlling the wind.
The operation covers approximately 2 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. The Trail takes you around the centre of Oswestry, including Cae Glas Park and the Castle Mound, before returning to Central Car Park via Old Chapel Court.
This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The route takes in Oswestry town centre, Cae Glas Park and the Castle Mound, with road crossings along the way.
Cross roads at the pedestrian crossing and zebra crossing, and take great care crossing the busy road on the way through town. The route also passes busy roads with vehicles, so keep Mini-Spies closely supervised throughout the mission.
Getting There
By car: Begin your operation at Central Car Park (SY11 2NR), then set off on foot to start tracking Dr Madden Badd's scattered clues.
By public transport: Make your way to Central Car Park (SY11 2NR) to begin the mission. The circular route returns to the start via Old Chapel Court once the final pieces of intel have been gathered.
Need the Loo?
Toilets are located at the start point, and the route also passes toilets in Cae Glas Park - handy for a tactical pause mid-mission.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged Agents are welcome to join this undercover operation 🐾
The route includes town-centre streets, busy roads, Cae Glas Park and the Castle Mound, so keep canine recruits close around traffic, crossings and gated areas, especially if you are completing the Trail later in the day before dusk.
Food & Drink Stops
Spy work is much sharper with supplies. Shops and cafes are along the route, and The Oak on Church Street is mentioned for pub stops.
Cae Glas Park is also on the route and includes a children's playground, making it a useful place to pause if your Agents have packed provisions for the mission.
Want to Make a Day of It?
Cae Glas Park
The mission passes through Cae Glas Park, where Agents can slow the pace around the memorial area and flower beds. You'll also find toilets, a children's playground, crazy golf and tennis courts here, making it a strong family-friendly stop before the park gates are locked at dusk.
Castle Mound
The route includes the Castle Mound, where you can climb to the top and enjoy the views once you are not busy hunting for weather-control intel. Just remember that the mound gates are locked at dusk.
Oswestry Town Centre and Bailey Head
The Trail explores the centre of Oswestry, a charming and historic market town on the Welsh Borders. This border town has ancient secrets, long cross-border trading links and old town walls, and the mission takes you to Bailey Head, the square at the top, before heading back towards the Castle Mound and town centre.
Wilfred Owen's Statue and Memorial Area
Keep an eye out for Wilfred Owen's statue and the memorial area as you investigate the route. There are documents and other items to inspect here as part of the Trail, so it is a good spot for Agents who like their code-cracking with a little local history.
Mini Secret Agent Club
Mini Secret Agent Club
We have three super duper themed Clubs for your child to enjoy as part of their Treasure Trail experience.
Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite
them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from
the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
