Ena Pickle's Treasure Hunt in Woodstock

Woodstock resident, Ena Pickle, needs your help! Her late husband, Ernest Pickle, was an avid treasure hunter and before he passed away, he hid all of his wealth in a secret location. In his will, he left a map and a series of clues for Ena to find the treasure. However, Ena is not as skilled at treasure hunts as her husband was and she has been unable to find the treasure on her own. With bills piling up and very little money left, Ena is desperate for your help before someone else finds the treasure and keeps it for themselves. Will you be the one to help Ena track down her rightful inheritance?

Mrs Pickle's Treasure Hunt in Woodstock

Join Ena on her quest to find the hidden treasure in Woodstock with this exciting self-guided Treasure Hunt. As you follow the trail, you will solve sneaky clues hidden on buildings, permanent features, and monuments to uncover the location of the buried treasure.

The adventure begins at the bus stop in front of the bookshop on Oxford Road and takes you on a journey through the timeless town of Woodstock. Along the way, you will also explore the beautiful Water Meadows before finishing back in the magnificent market place.

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Treasure Hunt through Woodstock’s historic market town, winding streets and nearby Water Meadows, with explorers following pavements, lanes, steps and grassy paths as they track down Ernest Pickle’s cleverly hidden fortune.

The route includes steps, cobbled areas, gentle inclines and a stretch through the Water Meadows, which can become wet or muddy after rain, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs and may be challenging for pushchairs in places.

Getting There

Your adventure begins near the vehicle entrance to Hensington Road Car Park - so step into position and start scanning for your first clue straight away.

By car:

Hensington Road Car Park (OX20 1JQ) is your best base, located close to the start of your adventure.

By public transport:

Woodstock is served by local bus routes, with stops close to the town centre and within easy walking distance of the start point.

Need the Loo?

Even the most intrepid explorers need a quick pit stop! Toilets can be found in the Hensington Road car park near the start and also in Brown’s Lane (next to The Star Inn in Market Place), giving you a couple of well-placed opportunities to pause during your quest.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged explorers are welcome on the quest 🐾 With a mix of town streets and open meadow paths, it’s a great outing for dogs - just keep leads handy near roads, livestock and in busier areas.

Food & Drink Stops

Treasure hunting is hungry work! Woodstock is packed with lovely pubs, cafés and restaurants, making it easy to refuel before or during your adventure.

If the weather’s kind, you might even want to bring a picnic to enjoy near the Water Meadows or in the nearby Blenheim Palace grounds.

Want to Make a Day of It?

Blenheim Palace and Grand Grounds

Right on Woodstock’s doorstep, Blenheim Palace offers stunning architecture and expansive grounds - perfect for extending your adventure beyond the Trail.

Historic Streets and Market Town Charm

From centuries-old inns to hidden corners and curiosities, Woodstock is packed with history at every turn - ideal for a treasure hunt full of twists and turns.

Meadows, Bridges and Riverside Wandering

The Water Meadows add a scenic, slightly wilder stretch to your quest, with wooden bridges and open space offering a lovely change of pace mid-adventure.
