The Hidden Hoard of Horcum - Help Solve the Mystery!

Deep in the heart of the North York Moors lies a mysterious location known as the Hole of Horcum. Legend has it that this massive depression was created by a fight between a giant named Wade and his wife Bell. But was there more to this quarrel than meets the eye? Local historian Harry Tidge has uncovered new evidence that suggests a hidden treasure may be at the heart of this ancient tale. Now, it's up to YOU to join the search and help solve this centuries-old mystery!

Treasure Hunt Through the North York Moors

Prepare for an exciting self-guided Treasure Hunt that will take you on a journey through the stunning North York Moors National Park. As you explore the charming villages and scenic countryside, keep an eye out for cleverly hidden clues that will lead you to the location of Wade and Bell's hidden hoard.

Your adventure begins in the picturesque village of Levisham, where Wade and Bell were said to have lived. From there, you'll journey through Goathland, Pickering, Rosedale Abbey, and Hutton-le-Hole, piecing together the clues and unravelling the mystery.

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

This quest starts off in the small village of Sneaton just south of Whitby. It takes you through the North Yorkshire Moors, stopping off at Falling Foss waterfall, the village of Little Beck, the glorious natural beauty of the Hole of Horcum and the village of Lockton before finishing at Levisham Station on the North Yorks Moor Railway (just north of Pickering). The route is linear, so you'll have to make your own way back to the start. The route will also take you through the picturesque village of Goathland, where there are no clues to solve but an opportunity to stop for a toilet break and to pick up some vital provisions.

As you'll be exploring around parts of the North Yorkshire Moors, some of the roads that need navigating are quite narrow and steep in places with a few twists and turns to tackle. If the weather is extremely wet or cold, we'd recommend waiting to do this quest in drier or warmer conditions.

Also, dogs are not allowed into the churchyard at Sneaton, where two of the clues are located. One of your team will have to wait outside for the others to collect the information that you need (once they're done, then you can take your turn to pop in to check out the fantastic views across the moors down to Whitby!).
