The Tadcaster Treasure Trail starts at:
The delightful market town contains many historical and architectural treasures such as the 12th Century St Mary's Church, with its decorated gargoyles and pinnacles and nearby popple-wells (freshwater springs). Other riches include the remains of a Norman Castle, the Ark, a Merchant House originally built in the late 15th Century, and many buildings from the Georgian and other eras. Just outside the town is the impressive and imposing multi-arched viaduct, built by George Hudson in the mid 19th Century.
Whilst on the Trail, you could sup an energizing cuppa in one of the quaint tea rooms, or sample a refreshing beer or two in the abundance of pubs and inns. Feeling energised, why not then venture further afield? Beauty abounds in the landscape surrounding Tadcaster. Use it as a stepping stone to pastures new!
This pleasurable circular Murder Mystery Walking Trail is approximately 2 miles long and can be comfortably completed within two hours. Regrettably, narrow footpaths make this Trail unsuitable for wheelchairs.
