The Goathland - Legend of the Gytrash Treasure Trail starts at:

North York Moors National
North Yorkshire
YO22 5ND

Explore this unspoilt village via grass verges, pavements and country paths. Some of these areas can get muddy, so suitable footwear is recommended. Park in the main car park on Beck Hole Road or if this is full, try the overflow car park next door (YO22 5NJ).

There are scenic picnic spots about halfway along the route as well as refreshments available at the station and at the finishing point. Toilets are available in the main car park at the start of the Trail and there is a small children's playground within the Trail route.

Extend your trip:

There are plenty of scenic walks available in the surrounding areas including a short walk to Mallyan Spout waterfall which is detailed as a suggested detour within the Trail booklet. You could also take a short trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (fares and timetable restrictions apply).

There is a main car park in the centre of Goathland with an overflow car park during busier periods. Parking is also available at Pickering and other stations along the North York Moors Railway if you wanted to travel to Goathland by train. Buses connect Goathland with Whitby, Pickering, Malton and Leeds.

The Goathland - Legend of the Gytrash Treasure Hunt Trail should be purchased prior to leaving home. Once you have your Trail booklet in your hand you're good to go! The easiest and quickest way to get the most up to date version of the Goathland - Legend of the Gytrash Treasure Trail is to order a download version off the website. You will instantly get a link to download a PDF file of the Trail for you to print at home. This can be done at any time of day or night for instant access. If you would like a hard copy, then choose the printed option online and we will pop one in the post for you to be delivered within 2-3 working days. If you are looking to do the Trail today and don't have a printer, we do have a couple of local retailers (use the search below) or why not purchase a download and go to a local library where you can print it off. If there are no other options though, with a little patience (due to scale and format) the Trail can be used on a tablet and at a push a phone. Sometimes you just want to speak to a real person though, so call one of the team on 01872 263692, Monday - Friday 9am - 5.30pm.
