The Elvington & Sutton upon Derwent Trail Treasure Trail starts at:

Roxby Close
Elvington
York

This spectacular Spy Trail will take you around two beautiful villages in the York and Humber region. Located six miles to the south east of historic York, you will discover the attractive village of Elvington, and the starting point for this Trail.

Nestled amidst the quaint cottages that make this village so endearing, and directly opposite the village green, is The Grey Horse public house. Feel free to call in before or after the Trail for refreshments. They even offer accommodation if you feel like an overnight stay.

To reach the second half of the Trail you will need to take a short drive or walk to the small, neighbouring village of Sutton upon Derwent. In 1997 Roman remains were discovered in the vicinity, suggesting evidence of a possible Roman settlement.

These days locals and visitors alike can expect a warm welcome at the St.Vincent Arms. People flock from far and wide to enjoy the delectable food, fine wines and great selection of real ales that are on offer in this popular pub. A perfect place to end this Trail.

This Spy Trail is set in the two villages of Elvington and Sutton upon Derwent. It is about 2 miles long and will take approximately 2 hours to complete if you choose to walk between the two villages. Alternatively, there is an option to drive between the two villages, thereby halving the walking distance and time it will take to complete the Trail. As the Trail is set mostly on flat footpaths, normal walking shoes will suffice. There are a few steps and uneven terrain to negotiate along the way so regrettably the Trail is not suitable for wheelchair users. If assistance is available, then there shouldn't be too much difficulty for those with pushchairs. The kissing gate at the entrance to the churchyard in Elvington could prove tricky for some types of pushchairs.

The Elvington & Sutton upon Derwent Trail Spy Mission Treasure Trail should be purchased prior to leaving home. Once you have your Trail booklet in your hand you're good to go!
