Centuries ago, Queen Matilda possessed a precious and powerful gem. To keep it safe, she hid it, but after her death, its location was forgotten. Many years later, the gem was discovered among the loot of the notorious pirate, Blackbeard. Fearing its mysterious powers, the Mayor of London had Blackbeard's crew executed and the gem hidden once again. But before their death, the pirates warned that anyone who tried to find the gem would be cursed.

Before you set off on your awesome adventure to explore London, there are a few things you need to know...
Unfortunately, the route is not marked as friendly for wheelchair users due to some steps along the route; however, those with light pushchairs should find this manageable. Some stretches of the Trail are also across cobbled surfaces, so please make sure you wear appropriate footwear, as these parts can be uneven and become slippery when it has been raining.
This Trail takes you through a very busy city centre, so we would not recommend bringing your four-legged friends along.
Some areas along the route of this Trail close at 6.30pm, so we recommend leaving plenty of time to complete the Trail.
Some clues along the route of this Trail are set in the riverfront area around the Tower of London, which is open every day except for between 24-26 December and 01 January. Click here to see the latest opening hours. You will not have to pay to enter anywhere to solve the clues.
The start and end locations of this Trail are located close to Tower Hill tube station.
Access may be restricted to some parts of the Trail on some days due to special events or marches in central London. It's always best to check for known road closures ahead of travel.
There are public toilets available at the docks (Clues 08-09) and at Tower Hill (Clue 15). The route passes several pubs and a few cafes along the way. Trinity Square Gardens, near the end of the Trail, makes a great picnic spot if the weather is nice!
