More Information:

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

Unfortunately, the route is not suitable for wheelchair users due to unavoidable steps. However, those with light pushchairs should find this manageable.

Bring your four-legged friends along! Please note that there are sections in the busy town, so dogs will need to be kept on leads.

The closest pay and display car park to the Trail start point is at Hartham Lane (SG14 1QR), just a short walk away from your first clue.

PLEASE NOTE:
Part of your investigation will be around Hertford Castle grounds, which are free to enter all year round, though there are seasonal opening hours that apply. SUMMER - Gates open at 7.30am and close at 9.30pm. WINTER - gates open at 7.30am and close at 5.00pm (4.30pm on Fridays). For more information, please click here to visit their website. Please make sure you leave plenty of time to solve the clues there, which are around mid-way along the Trail route.

There are some fantastic events in Hertford’s calendar, all of which are great times to visit this beautiful town. However, you may find that some of the clues on this Trail may become obstructed or difficult to access on these occasions. If you would like further information about event dates, please contact Hertford Tourist Information.

There are public toilets available towards the end of the Trail and the route passes several pubs and a few cafes along the way. Or, why not pack a picnic to enjoy at the castle grounds?

Why not make a day of it and take a peek inside Hertford Museum to learn more twisting tales about this lovely town? Or, take a trip just out of the town to explore the glorious open spaces at Panshanger Park.
