Navigating The Route
This is a circular Spy Mission around Portstewart Coast Path & Promenade, with Agents sent around Portstewart by The Doctor's Sunken Device to solve clues, crack the code and disarm a device hidden under the town's Promenade before the area is flooded.
The operation covers 1.65 miles and should take around 1.5 hours to complete. You'll begin at Portstewart Town Hall on The Crescent, close to the play area and Promenade, then investigate the coastal route, cliff path, Promenade and harbour area before returning along the Promenade with the sea on your right.
This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The route is mostly along paved surfaces, but some steps are encountered and stretches can be uneven and slippery at times.
There are road crossings, and the cliff path has twists and turns, so mind your footing. The route also passes areas close to the sea where spray can make conditions slippery.
Getting There
By car: Start the mission at Portstewart Town Hall, on The Crescent, close to the play area and Promenade (BT55 7AF). Limited parking for your undercover vehicle is available here. Limited parking is also available along the main street.
By public transport: Make your way to Portstewart Town Hall on The Crescent, close to the play area and Promenade, to begin the operation.
Need the Loo?
Public toilets are available between Clues 01 and 02, with more public toilets along the Promenade if needed.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged Agents are welcome to join the coastal operation 🐾
The route includes road crossings, steps, cliff path twists and turns, and areas close to the sea where spray can make conditions slippery, so keep canine recruits close around traffic, edges and wetter stretches.
Food & Drink Stops
There are plenty of chances to stop for refreshments and stock up on snacks along the way. If your squad prefers field rations, pause for a picnic on one of the benches overlooking the sea.

St. Mary's Star of the Sea
Standing proud since 1916, St. Mary's Star of the Sea is named with a nod to Portstewart's maritime roots. Its tower rises above The Crescent, it is still a lively parish today, and the site comes with coastal views worthy of any surveillance post.
Dominican College
Keep watch for Dominican College, built in 1834 as O'Hara's Castle before becoming Dominican College in 1917. Still known locally as 'the castle', it is noted for its turrets and sea views - an excellent landmark for Agents who enjoy a dramatic-looking sight.
Portstewart Strand
Just west of the town, Portstewart Strand is a beautifully clean two-mile-long beach protected by the National Trust. It continues to win a place in the top ten Best Blue Flag Beaches in Northern Ireland and remains among the top ten visitor destinations in Ireland.
North West 200
If your mission lands in May, look out for Portstewart's connection to the North West 200. The motorcycle race passes through the town, with the starting grid and pit area on the coastal road between Portrush and Portstewart.
The harbour
Once the code-cracking is complete, the harbour is a natural place to explore further. The finish points Agents towards this area, where there is plenty more to see before you stand down from duty.
Mini Secret Agent Club
Mini Secret Agent Club
We have three super duper themed Clubs for your child to enjoy as part of their Treasure Trail experience.
Perfect for 4-8 year olds, the concept behind the Clubs is that your child will get a bundle of goodies to excite
them about their forthcoming Trail experience, something to keep them entertained whilst travelling to and from
the Trail, and something to be given on completion of the Trail as a keepsake.
