Bert's Lost Wallet - A Tale of Mischief and Misfortune

Old Etonian, Bert E Worcester, had been celebrating the victory of the Eton College rowing team at Dorney Lake, with fellow Old Etonians. A little the worse for wear, Bert dropped his wallet as he got into a taxi to go home. The wallet, complete with bank cards, driver's license, passport, flat keys, car keys and his mobile phone (yes, it was a very fat wallet!), was picked up by one of his so-called 'mates', who decided to hide it as a prank! Bert incurred the anger of the taxi driver for not being able to pay the fare and then got stuck trying to climb through a window into his flat. Spotted by a passing patrol car and unable to produce any ID or contact phone numbers, Bert was taken to the police station! Can you help Bert out by finding his wallet?

What is a Treasure Trail?

Before You Set Off

Navigating The Route

This is a circular Treasure Hunt beginning in Windsor before crossing the bridge into Eton, with explorers following pavements, cobbled streets, grassy paths and quieter lanes as they track down Bert’s missing wallet.

The route includes unmade roads, grassy sections and some uneven terrain, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs, though pushchairs may manage with a determined pusher.

⚠️ Important: You will be travelling along roads, cobbled streets and areas with passing traffic, so explorers should stay alert at all times, use crossings where available and keep younger adventurers under close supervision.

Take extra care in car parks and along narrower streets, where vehicles may pass close by.

Getting There

Time to gather your explorers and begin the quest:

By car: Romney Lock Pay & Display Car Park (SL4 6HX) is the nearest option to the start of your adventure.

By public transport: Windsor & Eton Riverside Railway Station (SL4 1NA) is right at the start point, making this an easy quest to reach by train.

Your quest begins at Windsor & Eton Riverside Station — so step into position and start scanning for your first clue straight away.

Need the Loo?

Even the most intrepid explorers need a quick pit stop!

Toilets can be found at Eton Court, 102 High Street, and there is also a playground after Clue 16, making this a handy point to pause and recharge later in your quest.

Bring Your Furry Sidekicks

Four-legged explorers are welcome on the quest 🐾

With a mix of town streets and open areas, it’s a great outing for dogs - just keep leads handy near roads, busy areas and around other pedestrians.

Food & Drink Stops

Treasure hunting is hungry work!

It’s a good idea to gather provisions near the start or along Eton High Street after Clue 02, where you’ll find opportunities to stock up and keep energy levels high.

Perfect for fuelling up before the next round of clue-cracking.
