The Mysterious Disappearance of Big Red!
There’s something fishy going on in Weymouth… and we’re not just talking about the seafood specials! Big Red – the town’s legendary, record-breaking lobster – has vanished from the harbourside shack, leaving behind only a few shattered shell fragments and some suspiciously slippery footprints.
Join crustacean-cracking legend DCI Chris Tayshun as he swaps his desk for the docks and ropes you in to help crack the case. Starting at Hope Square by Brewers Quay, you’ll scour the historic old town, scenic quayside and lively streets, following sneaky clues hidden on buildings, plaques and permanent features.
As you eliminate suspects and sift through the shell-shocking evidence, one question remains…
Who pinched Big Red – and is the town’s tastiest treasure gone for good?

Before You Set Off
Before You Set Off
PLEASE NOTE - This Trail used to be the Weymouth Town Centre & Seafront Trail but has had a major rewrite in April 2025.
Before you dive into your claw-some case in Weymouth, here are a few handy tips...
Easy to Navigate – This coastal caper is fully accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs, following pavements, pedestrianised zones and well-maintained paths. There are a couple of short slopes and some steps at the end, but alternative step-free routes are provided wherever needed.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks – Most of the Trail weaves through Weymouth’s historic streets and harbourside. There aren't many green spaces on the way but you have the beach where your four-legged friends might get a sniff-tastic moment. Just check local signage/byelaws before letting them loose.
Parking Sorted! – There are great options close to the start at Hope Square:
Weymouth Old Town (West) car park (DT4 8LS) – just behind Brewers Quay
Nothe Car Park (DT4 8UD) – cheaper and only a 10-minute stroll away
Further info here
Need the Loo? – Facilities available at:
Hope Street toilets – near the start point
Maiden Street toilets - near Clue 08
Various town centre cafes and pubs – some are customer-only, but perfect for a mid-mystery brew!
Want to Make a Day of It?
Discover Weymouth’s Past – Pop into Weymouth Museum (currently closed for renovation), nestled in the historic Brewers Quay, to uncover tales of shipwrecks, seaside holidays and smugglers. You can also stroll along the heritage trail for a glimpse into the town’s maritime past.
Step Back in Time – Just a short wander away you’ll find Nothe Fort, a Victorian coastal defence packed with tunnels, cannons, and stories of wartime Weymouth. Or head across the bay to explore the ruins of Sandsfoot Castle.
Seasonal Events – Look out for events on Weymouth Beach, the Pavilion, and along the harbourside – from pirate parades to seafood festivals, there’s often something going on. Don’t miss the Firework Nights in summer or the Dorset Seafood Festival if you’re lucky with the timing. Check here for what's coming up!
Happy Birthday, Weymouth! – 2025 marks 450 years since Queen Elizabeth I united Weymouth and Melcombe Regis – expect some shell-ebrations around the harbourside!
