A mystery is waiting to be solved in

Bank & Beyond

The City of London is 'hopping' mad! The stunning 'Gresham Grasshopper' weathervane, an 11-foot long, gilded sculpture that has stood atop successive versions of the Royal Exchange since the 16th century, has been stolen and replaced by a papier mache replica! It was the personal emblem of Tudor financier and founder of the Royal Exchange, Sir Thomas Gresham. There are other grasshoppers in the Square Mile, but none as beautiful or valuable as the iconic weathervane. Who could have carried out such an audacious crime? The police have drawn up a list of suspects, but are struggling to identify the thief. Papier mache won't last long in this climate, so it is vital that the grasshopper is recovered soon and the thief banged to rights! Can YOU find the Clues and solve the mystery?

Detective Mystery Through the Heart of the Financial District

Get ready for an exciting self-guided detective mystery Trail adventure that will take you through the heart of London's financial district. Starting at the iconic St Paul's Cathedral, you'll explore the winding streets of the City of London, investigating around famous buildings like the Sky Garden and stumbling upon hidden gems as you track down the culprit.

More Information:

Before you set off on your awesome adventure, there are a few things you need to know...

PLEASE NOTE - Distaff Lane Garden (Clue 3) is closed on some main public holidays and closes at dusk every other day.

The route is friendly for wheelchair users and pushchairs, but there are some cobbles to negotiate along the way.

This Trail takes you through a very busy city centre, so we would not recommend bringing your four-legged friends along.

The start and end locations of this Trail are located close to both St Paul’s, on the Central Line, and Mansion House Underground Stations, on the District and Circle lines.

Access may be restricted to some parts of the Trail on some days due to special events or marches in central London. It's always best to check for known road closures ahead of travel.

There are public toilets available at the cathedral and along the Trail route. The route passes several pubs and cafes along the way, with great picnic spots near Clues 03-04 and 18 if the weather is nice!

Looking for more things to do in the City of London? Make a day of it and take a peek inside St Paul's Cathedral, discover twisting tales and brilliant exhibition at London Mithraeum or soak up the view across the city from the Sky Garden.
