Plan Your Own Local Microadventure

Hi, Sam here, Head of Marketing Mumbo Jumbo at Treasure Trails (yes, that really is my official job title).

Whilst browsing in a local bookshop, I came across a book which has really changed my outlook on adventure.

I (naively) believed that a true adventure needed to be an overseas epic journey of endurance but it doesn't have to be that way with a local Microadventure!

What is a Microadventure?

The term 'Microadventure' was created by adventurer, author and keynote speaker, Alastair Humphreys.

In Alastair's words a microadventure is "an adventure that is short, simple, local, cheap – yet still fun, exciting, challenging, refreshing and rewarding".

Our Treasure Trails really do help you to see your surroundings from a whole different perspective and this feeling of discovery and excitement is magnified with the allure of a local microadventure.

If you're an ordinary person with a super busy life who's putting their future adventures on ice due to everyday commitments (a bit like me), then it might be time to take stock and plan your very own microadventure.

I'm absolutely sold on the idea!

So much so that I'm joyously researching bivvy bags and digging out OS maps to plan my very own local microadventure.

Baby steps first though, as mine and Max's (my 7 year old son and mini adventurer) first microadventure is to sleep under the stars on a clear summers night (in the safety of our back garden).

You've got to start somewhere, right?!

I'm so pleased that I stumbled across Alastair Humphreys 'Microadventures' book.

It's sparked something inside me that was missing, now that I'm a "relatively sensible adult".

I'm excited about the adventures to come! I'll keep you posted.
