3 Favourite Places for Afternoon Tea in Hereford
3 Favourite Places for Afternoon Tea in Hereford - Afternoon tea is such a wonderful British tradition and with the popularity of programmes like the Great British Bake Off, its appeal is as strong as ever.
We love a good afternoon tea and sometimes go the whole hog. But just as nice is a good cup of tea in fine china and a piece of Victoria sponge! Cafe Mundi in Hereford Cathedral will serve you a lovely cup of tea and a piece of cake but the best bit is the location. Adjoining Cafe Mundi is the award winning Chapter House Garden. Described as an area of outstanding beauty and solitude by Hereford City's Conservation Area Award Committee - it is wonderful to sit out in the sunshine enjoying the birds and the bees. We just love it there and look for excuses to go there whenever we can.
A few paces from the Cathedral is the Castle House Hotel. Afternoon tea with the full works and champagne will cost you £24. Booking is highly recommended. But if you just fancy a scone and a pot of tea, the surroundings are beautifully elegant and on a sunny day you can sit with your tea right by the river. They serve tea blended by a local too. Might have to wait now till next year to do that!
The Orchard Cafe in Holmer Park Spa do a scummy afternoon tea with or without champagne. The cakes are homemade and the sandwiches freshly cut. You can have your afternoon tea without going the whole way and booking a spa day, but its always great to have a bit of a pamper! The last time we did it, we justified our sandwiches, cakes and scones because we’d swam a combined total of 90 lengths of the 20m pool!
Next time you are in Hereford doing one of four Treasure Trails around the city, pick a place for afternoon tea and let us know about it.
