Aberdovey – Things to Do

There are so many things to do if you are staying at the award winning Trefeddian Hotel in Aberdovey.

In the Hotel

You could spend several days in the hotel and not run out of things to do! We were holed up one very wet and rainy Saturday and were spoiled for choice. The swimming pool is always a winner with our family. There is also a huge games area with plenty of toys for little ones, table tennis and pool for the teenagers. Grown ups get snooker!

We picked up a free fun activity packs for the kids. The lounge cupboards are stuffed full of board games, there are jigsaws on tables to be dipped into or sat in front of for hours. A full sized card table and masses of books.

The views are fantastic and we sat for hours with our books, magazines and a scrumptious Welsh afternoon tea!

Highly recommended.

Aberdovey - the Town

The sun came out on Sunday and we popped down to town via the beach. It's a short walk from the hotel. You just cross the main road, the railway line, the golf course and the sand dunes. Walking along the flat compacted sand was easy. There is a strange phenomenon there where the wind whips along blowing the sand and the shells act as mini wind breaks. We dawdled along enjoying the sounds and smells of the sea.

Once in town, there are several gift and clothes shops to browse and lots of coffee and lunch places. Needless to say there is also the Lost Bells of Aberdovey Treasure Trail.

The walk back to the hotel along a path by the main road was a quick 20 minutes or so.

Walks in the Area

The hotel has information on 40 or so walks in the area. We chose the Dolgoch Falls one. It starts and finishes at a tea room. Always a bonus. We followed the path along the river and admired the lower falls. And climbed up rough rock and stone steps to the middle falls.

We went on up and up to the upper falls where across a bridge were a selection of picnic tables. Retracing our steps back down, we took the option of the longer but easier path back through the trees. The woods are ancient and magical. You can sense the wildlife all around. It was extraordinary. Back at the cafe we enjoyed a pot of tea and locally made bara brith which we shared with a robin. Which reminded us of this childhood rhyme.

My robin comes to garden tea

He's not at all afraid of me

He's very round and red and sweet

But it isn't quite polite to eat

Standing on the table!
