Sherlock Holmes Quiz Answers

The answers to last week’s quick quiz were:

  1. Sherlock Holmes was originally going to be called Sherrinford – seems a pretty good name to me!
  2. Dr Watson’s original name was Ormond Sacker – can’t quite imagine this one!
  3. The name of the first novel Sherlock appeared in was A Study in Scarlet in 1887 – note to self to read it!
  4. Conan Doyle was 27 when he wrote A Study in Scarlet – and apparently it only took him 3 weeks to write!
  5. The Mark Haddon bestseller, ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ took its title from a phrase in Silver Blaze – we were lucky enough to see the show before the roof fell in!
  6. Lake Conan Doyle is in South Norwood – not sure where that is though!
  7. The film ‘Sherlock Holmes Baffled’ was made in 1900 – and is only 30 seconds long!
  8. In 2002, Sherlock became the first character to receive an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Society of Chemistry (Chambers Dictionary of Literary Characters, 2004) – love that we are bonkers enough to induct literary characters into real societies!

So now you know!!
