Treasure Trails is so proud to be joining forces with the British Heart Foundation to help fight heart and circulatory disease.

Treasure Trails Joins Forces with the British Heart Foundation

There are so many fantastic benefits to doing a Trail; precious time with family and friends, learning about and exploring a location in an innovative way, and of course, having an amazing adventure! One thing we don’t talk about quite so much though is the health benefits, both mental and physical.

Embarking on an activity such as a Treasure Trail is great for mental health. When completing the Trail with others, you’re giving yourself some valuable social time and an opportunity to focus on something other than the daily challenges in our busy lives. Add in the mind-twisting Clues for a dash of fun and, also, brain stimulation as they aid with memory and learning.

The physical health benefits are pretty obvious as well but perhaps presented as a secondary benefit after the actual ‘adventure’ itself. We think this is pretty handy given the struggle many of us have to motivate ourselves to do exercise, for exercise sake.

The average Trail is around 2-miles of walking, plus a bit of back and forth searching high and low for Clues. You’ll generally be on your feet for a couple of hours, getting some magical fresh air and your heart rate up without having to don the sweatbands; 5,000 steps completed! In fact, we previously wrote a pretty cool article on exercise you’re already doing (without even trying).

A Perfectly Healthy Match…

Treasure Trails and the British Heart Foundation seem like the perfect match. This is why we have committed to donating £5,000 a month to the British Heart Foundation to help fund their vital research. Our aim is a minimum of £15,000 over August, September and October 2020, but hope to go even further, building a stronger and more unique partnership for much much longer.

Sara Johnson, Partnership Manager at the British Heart Foundation, is super excited:

“The BHF are delighted to be partnering with Treasure Trails. Through our research, we know how vital it is to exercise and get outside and active as part of a heart healthy lifestyle, and we can’t wait to see this partnership grow.

Walking is part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. You can get fit whilst raising funds for vital research by taking part in a Treasure Trail”.

Welcome to the Seventh Edition of TT Strange Times!

News, ideas and inspiration from us in these strangest of times.

Hello and welcome to the seventh issue of TT Strange Times!

Regular readers of TT Strange Times will hopefully know by now that we wanted to offer a fun resource for puzzles, games, ideas and information to help us all through these uncertain times.

I must admit, I used to find the idea of staying in the UK for my annual holiday uninspiring and unappealing. Big mistake! In more enlightened years I have come to realise my good fortune in living in the UK, with its huge range of history, culture, landscapes – and weather! No longer is a UK-based holiday viewed as the runner’s up prize.

Even before the unprecedented events of spring/summer 2020 many more of us Brits had begun to forego the annual holiday ‘abroad’ for the delights of a UK-based holiday. For some this means literally staying in their own homes, but for others this has a wider meaning – staying away from home but still at home in the UK. We are enthusiastic advocates of the advantages of making the most of living in the UK and therefore our current issue is proudly dedicated to…

A Staycation Summer

TT Strange Times - A Staycation Summer - why travel abroad during lockdown when we have such amazing destinations right here on our own doorsteps?
TT Strange Times – A Staycation Summer – why travel abroad during lockdown when we have such amazing destinations right here on our own doorsteps?

Travelling abroad was not without its challenges even before the recent developments, but now, in the summer of 2020 it seems that many people are making the UK the focus for their summer plans. If you are among them and are looking for ideas for how to spend your time, read on.

For our Inspirational People for Inspirational Times section, we look at Patrick and Joan Laurance, the late founders of the charity Family Holiday Association.

For this issue’s dose of FRESH AIR FUN, what better idea could we recommend as a way of getting fresh air and exercise, and getting to know your surrounding area than a Treasure Trail?

For Getting YUMMY With It… Just because you aren’t holidaying abroad, it doesn’t mean that you can’t eat as if you were!

TT Strange Times - A Staycation Summer - Okay, so we may not all be able to eat on a glorious beach at sunset but we can still eat as if we were on holiday...

Our TOP Five… this time around looks at our choice of the best FREE things to do whilst enjoying your UK-based staycation.

Once you are done with that, do you fancy having a go at this issue’s competition? It’s a cryptic wordsearch about places in the UK! Submit your entries to us and you could win a gift voucher to use on your next Trailing adventure.

Finally, if you fancy a little puzzle to do at home, why not try our latest Virtual Trail?

As always, we hope you enjoy – and don’t forget to share this with friends and family.

Our inspiring quote for this issue:

“I sat on a toilet watching the water run thinking what an odd thing tourism is. You fly off to a strange land, eagerly abandoning all the comforts of home and then expend vast quantities of time and money in a largely futile effort to recapture the comforts you wouldn’t have lost if you hadn’t left home in the first place.”
Bill Bryson – Neither Here Nor There
