  • YOUR CASE

When cheeky wine connoisseur, Lord Gerry Boham, recently renovated Cawood Castle cellar, a treasure map, dating back to the Middle Ages, was unearthed. This has led to excited murmurings and whisperings that a hoard of priceless coins and jewels is buried in a secret location, believed to be a remote island off the Yorkshire coast. Can you solve the clues and identify the location of the treasure?

    Cawood Treasure Hunt

Situated on the west bank of the River Ouse, the pretty village of Cawood is one of the oldest and most important settlements in the Selby District. The prominent Cawood Castle, which lies at the heart of the community, was once the residence of the Archbishops of York who were forced to leave at the English Reformation.

For the past 28 years the popularity of Cawood has snowballed due to its superb craft festival, held annually over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Thousands of people flock to enjoy three days of traditional rural arts and crafts, showcasing a wide variety of British talent.

This Trail will show you all the highlights of the delightful Cawood, emaphasising why it is such a sought after place to live and visit. Its riverside setting, attractive All Saints Church, historic Cawood Castle and the lovely open space of Castle Garth will stun and astound you. With three watering holes to choose from, you'll be stuck for choice on where to stop for much needed refreshments!

This interesting Treasure Hunt Walking Trail will lead you around historic Cawood. It will take around 2 hours to complete and is approximately 2 miles long. Whilst this walk has been deemed suitable for pushchairs, please be aware there is a stile to negotiate along the route. We would recommend two adults be present to help lift any pushchairs over the stile. As the Trail also involves crossing an open green space, appropriate footwear will be necessary in wet weather. Regrettably, the stile and uneven footpaths make this Trail unsuitable for wheelchairs.
