YOUR MISSION
Jealous of York winning a 'University of the Year' award, a mad scientist from a rival institution has hatched an evil plot. He plans to ensure that York fails to win again by hiding a device in the lake. Once activated the device will release a pungent gas, giving all the ducks and geese severe diarrhoea, thus making all of campus a smelly, gooey mess. Can you solve the clues and make the device safe before it is too late?
University of York Campus Trail
Thinking of becoming a student or a member of staff at the University of York? Are you visiting the campus on a conference or perhaps you live in the area and just fancy getting to know the attractive grounds better? Then why not explore this prestigious institution with our thrilling Spy Mission?
Situated to the east of the beautiful and historic city of York, the University of York campus is approximately 200 acres in size. Since its doors opened in 1963, it has climbed the league tables, and was recently named ‘University of the Year’ at the Times Higher Education Awards 2010.
Along this Trail you will be led around the main site of Heslington West, taking in the key landmarks, colleges, sculptures and historical listed buildings that make the campus so appealing on a local, national and international level. The renowned campus lakes and greenery and the extensive wildlife, which includes a designated bird sanctuary, all emphasise why the institution is so popular.
If the fresh air has helped work up an appetite or left you parched, never fear! During term time there are over a dozen eateries and bars to choose from in the form of restaurants, cafes and snack bars all across campus. Alternatively, the delightful village of Heslington is in close proximity and offers two decent pubs, serving mammoth portions and an impressive selection of real ales.
If the bright lights of the city are too good to resist then the centre of York is only a short bus ride away. Services to and from the university are run by a number of operators and run as frequently as every few minutes during the day. With so much to see and do you will be hard pushed to fit everything in. Why not take your time and turn your trip into an action packed fun filled full day out?
This thrilling circular Spy Walking Trail is set mostly on flat footpaths so normal walking shoes will be adequate. The two mile, two hour Trail has been deemed suitable for light pushchairs but please be aware there are series of steps to negotiate along the route. Therefore, we would recommend two adults be present to help with any lifting that may be necessary. Unfortunately, the steps make the Trail unsuitable for wheelchair users.
