Treasure Trails On the Radio

14/02/2011

On Saturday, 12th February a nervous and excited Amanda was driven to the Herefordshire and Worcstershire studio of the BBC in Hylton Road, Worcester.  David's plan was to sit in the car and listen to the radio whilst Amanda was live in the studio talking to Wincey Willis.  Amanda takes up the story "we arrived in plenty of time (I hate being late) and at the appointed hour of 9.20 I buzzed the door bell and a very nice lady called Anita let me in. She asked me to take a seat and said she'd be with me shortly.  A few minutes later she returned and said actually I wasn't "on" until 10.00 but to get mysef a glass of water and read a mag.  I was too excited to settle and decided to nip into the ladies!  Settling down in there I heard someone call my name and ended up having a conversation with Wincey herself through the loo door.  Oh dear, not a great start!

Anyway, a little while later Anita returned and let me into the producers room and we chatted and I gave her some facts for her to write up a cue for Wincey and then at about 10.00 I was ushered into the studio itself.  Wincey was charming and made me very comfortable very quickly.  We chatted and then suddenly I was live!  Its a weird feeling talking to lots of people that you can't see and even weirder was that I couldn't see Wincey that clearly either as I had a great big microphone in front of me and she had one in front her too!

We had three separate chats with some music in between and all in all I had a great time..... and David all the while was outside recording it on his iphone so I could hear myself back later!  If anyone wants to hear it, just get in touch and we can send you the clips!".

After hearing the clips, Peter from TT Derbyshire commented "Love the way you managed to weave everything in – well done.  Nice friendly show too"  Sheila in Glasgow said "Well done Amanda – you managed to make it sound like a relaxed chat over a coffee!"  and Jane in Suffolk tweeted "Just listened to your BIG slot on BBC Radio - excellent. No excuses for not knowing what a Treasure Trail is now in H & W!"

And the best thing about it was we sold two Trails immediately afterwards!
