YOUR CASE
For years the tyrannous landlord of the valley reaped the rewards of the peasants’ labour and robbed all those that travelled through his land. When finally, the people revolted and murdered the landlord, they were disappointed to find his treasure missing. Follow the directions and solve the clues to see if you can find the secret hiding place in the fertile valley. You could even win a prize yourself!
Pewsey
Set in an ancient landscape, Saxon literature refers to Pewsey as "Pevisigge" meaning Little Island' or 'well watered land’, fitting of its location at a crossing point on the River Avon near the centre of the fertile vale. Although strictly a village, today Pewsey has the look and feel of a small town and is regarded as the capital of Pewsey Vale. There are several shops, pubs, bakeries and cafes in the village centre.
This 1.5 mile walking Treasure Hunt Trail takes you around the village and some of its maintained green areas. Allow around 2 hours on pavements or firm surfaced walkways. Lowered kerbs facilitate accessibility for pushchairs and wheelchairs. However, rain or damp autumn leaves may make parts of the Trail slippery so proceed with care particularly at the nature reserve. Bouverie Hall Car Park is free (Dec 2010) and toilets are located opposite the hall.
