Ramsbury 2
The quiet rural village of Ramsbury nestles by the River Kennet below the slopes of the Marlborough Downs in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you can enjoy banks of cowslips in the spring and butterflies in the summer. Steeped in history and tradition the village has many fine Jacobean and Georgian buildings, thatched cottages and an impressive church.
‘Ramsbury 2 – Manor and Water Meadows’ is a circular walking Murder Mystery Trail which combines village and countryside and takes about 2 hours. Starting from the village it explores the valley out to the handsome Manor House where Oliver Cromwell stayed whilst planning the invasion of Ireland. You’ll walk through a tapestry of habitats from arable land to woodland and water meadows where the willow scrub is valuable for song-birds and the tall grass is hunted over by barn owls. Following lanes, footpaths and bridleways there are some inclines and it could be muddy underfoot! Therefore regrettably this Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs.
