  • YOUR CASE

Lucy made intricate lace designs by day and served whiskey for wealthy wool merchants by night. Tragically, not long after a dispute between the merchants, she has been found dead beside her bobbins. Foul play is suspected – who has she crossed? If you can solve the mystery, you could win a prize!

    Malmesbury 1 Historic Abbey

Following treasure hunt style clues, this walking Murder Mystery Trail lets you explore the picturesque old streets of the historic hilltop market town of Malmesbury. Built on a Saxon road plan and dominated by the Norman abbey, this Cotswold town is the oldest borough in England.

The Trail takes about 1 hour but you may wish to allow longer for coffee, shopping or visiting the Abbey or Athelstan Museum. Please note that the abbey grounds close at approximately 5pm in summer (4pm winter) so do start out early enough!

Following pedestrian pathways, this Trail is suitable for push chairs and wheelchairs. However, as some inclines are unavoidable a companion for wheelchair users is advisable. Pay and display parking (or no charge for Disabled Badge holders) can be found at Cross Hayes Short Stay Car Park or at the Long Stay Station Road Car Park. Toilets are located at and behind the tourist information centre at Cross Hayes.

For a different perspective, ‘Malmesbury Rivers and Bridges’ is a Spy Trail that explores the encircling river that is today so tranquil yet gives a feel for medieval defences and once working mills.
