Bertram the builder, in his quest for even greater wealth, has planted a device which will destroy the abbey. He believes that the abbey ground would be ideal for a large resort and urban development. Historians and members of the town council are desperate to keep the abbey intact. Can you discover the secret code to prevent the detonation of the bomb?
Malmesbury 2 Riverside & Bridges
Built of golden Cotswold stone, Malmesbury ‘Queen of hilltop towns’ is essentially rural. The steep sided hilltop market town is surrounded by two forks of the River Avon making it a strategic stronghold throughout the ages. With treasure hunt style clues this circular walking Spy Trail takes you along the rivers that formed part of the medieval hilltop town defences and contributed to its industrial success. The Trail culminates at the famed Malmesbury Abbey but along the way you’ll see bridges and find reminders of old town walls, gates and transport links. There are some great photo opportunities!
The Trail mostly follows hard surfaced paths and pavements but it may be muddy underfoot when crossing the meadows. There are toilets at the information centre in town and near the playground mid route. The Trail takes about 1.5 hours but allow longer for refreshments, browsing the shops or to visit sites in town.
Unfortunately this Trail is not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. However, our Murder Mystery Trail of Malmesbury's picturesque streets and lanes is suitable for people of all physical abilities.
