YOUR CASE
The body of a foreign horse trainer was discovered today by a conductor when the train pulled into the sidings at the end of the line. Rumours of an alleged association with an organised betting syndicate have thrown up several suspects across the counties. Police are asking for the public’s assistance with the investigation. Solve the mystery and you could win a prize!
Great Bedwyn
From a peaceful stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal, this 1.2 mile circular Murder Mystery walking Trail explores the highlights of the large rural village of Great Bedwyn. The Celts, Romans and Saxons all had settlements here. Known as the Bedgyn or Bedewind to the Saxons, it was once the residence of Cissa, the Saxon viceroy of Wiltshire and Berkshire. Formerly an important market town for the Savernake area, the village held borough status from the 11th century until the Reform Act of 1832; it even returned two Members of Parliament!
Both village pubs welcome families (and well behaved dogs!) so remember to plan your visit to coincide with regular lunchtime or evening opening times. The Trail crosses playing fields and you'll encounter a few steps so regrettably it is unsuitable for wheelchairs although it could be negotiated with a robust pushchair.
