YOUR CASE
The mysterious multi-faceted ‘Peacock Stones’ were said to sparkle and shimmer all the iridescent blue-green hues of a peacock’s plumage. Solve the mystery and you could win a prize!
Corsham
After centuries of insecurities as an outpost of the Kingdom of Wessex, Corsham developed as a market town on the London to Bath coaching route and owes its prosperity to the wool trade and quarrying of the golden Bath Stone. On the edge of the Cotswolds this attractive town is renowned for its buildings of local golden stone and fine architecture; backdrop for the 1993 film Remains of the Day, Corsham Court features the work of 'Capability' Brown, John Nash and Thomas Bellamy.
Allow a leisurely 1.25 hours for this short circular walking Trail which explores the sights and history of this medieval market town with its royal roots and hidden links with the past. Corsham is on the flat making the Trail suitable for all levels of physical ability. Generally the Trail routes around pedestrianised areas or quiet streets; and the grounds of Corsham Court Park are ideal for the kids to let off steam! There are many places to stop for refreshments or you might choose to picnic in the park.
