YOUR CASE
Found murdered on the way to market, dodgy drover Shorty Change has crossed local butchers over the years but the constable in charge is making a pig's ear of the enquiry! Can you get beyond the 'hogwash' to help uncover the truth about who took Shorty’s life and how they did so?
Calne
Calne originated as a defensive town between Saxon Wessex and the Norsemen to the north. Its name is thought to derive from the Celtic 'col aun' meaning current of waters and it was proximity to the River Marden that led to its thriving woollen industry in medieval times. Prosperity continued when the town later became home to Wiltshire bacon.
Allow around 1.5 hours for this 1.5 mile circular walking Trail which takes in the highlights of the town from Market Hill along the river and beyond St Mary’s Church to The Green. The route continues into Castlefields Park, with more insight into the town's past and present, before culminating at The Strand. A series of town plaques offer historical, scientific, literary and even sporting insight. This combined with colourful buildings, unusual artworks and open spaces makes for a Trail with broad appeal. There are shops, inns, restaurants and tea rooms along the way.
Apart from a few short ascents/descents the terrain is level with regular lowered kerbs suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
My boyfriend and I both really enjoyed the trail. Although we have visited Calne lots of times for our weekly shop, we have never explored any of the places the trail took us to - places that we will definitely be going back to. I didn't know some of these places existed and the places and spaces the trail takes you around were fantastic - especially Castlefields Park.
