  • YOUR CASE

Scraps of an ancient map have been found clutched in the fist of Roman Centurion Maximus Spondulicks during the excavation of Roman remains near the town. The map pointed to a hoard of treasure he had stashed away for safe keeping. His untimely demise meant that he was unable to recover his loot of aureus and denarius coins. This could be your chance to solve the clues to identify the location and win a prize.

    Llandeilo

Situated at the heart of the Tywi valley and on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, Llandeilo used to be the market town of Carmarthenshire and a very prosperous town. Today it relies mostly on tourism and holiday makers for its income, it is a lovely place and well worth a visit. Llandeilo embraces the fact that it is slight old fashioned and survives without the modern shopping mall. Indeed, most of the shops are independent, run by their owners and are proud of the individual service they give.

King George IV visited the town during his reign and to commemorate the occasion named a number of streets after him. As ever in Wales, there are a number of hills to climb and the road up from the river was diverted through the town's churchyard to make the gradient easier.

To the west of the town is the National Trust property of Dinefwr Park and more local, Penlan Park - formerly part of the Dinefwr Park estate but given by Lord Dynevor to the townsfolk in 1908.

This circular Treasure Hunt Trail starts in the town centre car park and takes in the most interesting parts of the town including a visit to the bridge over the river Tywi. It takes about 2 hours to complete and is about 2 miles in length. Apart from the hills, the Trail should be suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
