The Rhinns of Islay Trail

The Rhinns of Islay is one of the most beautiful parts of the island to explore. With pretty villages and deserted beaches with booming atlantic surf, it is a relaxing place to while away an afternoon. The Treasure Hunt Trail will help you explore some of the most scenic and interesting places on the Rhinns. Starting in Bridgend, you are first taken to the RSPB reserve at Loch Gruinart before circling Loch Gorm. Your next stop is the golden sands of Machir Bay, before you visit the old churchyard at Kilchoman. Returning to the main road, you will then visit Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte before finishing the trail in Portnahaven.

The Trail is suitable for all, although you may struggle to get a wheelchair into the grounds of Kilchoman church or through the gate to the war memorial just past Bruichladdich. Driving distance : 36 miles - return to Bridgend. Walking distance : about 2 miles Time : allow 3-4 hours
