How to Purchase a Trail

Select your Trail by going to the regional page of where your Trail is located.

Click the Trail location on the interactive map.

Click Buy Now on the Trail homepage.
Your Trail will now be added to your basket. You can add as many Trails as you want to your basket.

To proceed to checkout, click on the link below the compass on the left side of the page. Check your basket and select Proceed to Checkout.

Once you have completed all the necessary information, you will be redirected to the HSBC secure payments site. Once all your payment details have been confirmed by HSBC you will be redirected back to the Treasure Trails website.

The first page you come back to is an electronic receipt page confirming your payment but also containing a link to download your Trail. Click this and download will commence. You will be able to save the document wherever you want on your computer.

If you accidently go past the receipt without downloading, don't worry, you also receive an e-mail with a link for you to click and download the trail.

Of course you can also phone your regional office and order a Trail direct from them and they will post the Trail to you.

How to Put your Trail Together

Once download is complete, you will be able to print the Trail. In Acrobat Reader click on File, then Print. Click on ‘Properties’ to access your printer options. If available select ‘Borderless’. The Trail consists of 4 Pages and should be printed on A4 Landscape. Use the heaviest paper you have. Click OK to print.

When the Trail is printed you can join up the pages to form a booklet.

To do this:

Place Page 1 (the front cover) face down on a flat surface.
Place Page 2 (How to solve the mystery) face up and onto the back of Page 1. Glue, sellotape or staple the two pages together.

Place Page 3 (case solved or treasure found) face down on a flat surface.
Place Page 4 (all clues and directions) face up and onto the back of Page 3. Glue, sellotape or staple the two pages together.

Now lay Pages 1 and 2 on the flat surface with the front cover face down.
Place Pages 3 and 4 onto Pages 1 and 2 with the case solved/treasure found page facing down.

Fold the pages in half to make an A5 booklet.

How to Follow the Trail

The clues and directions are all in number order, and match the sequence in which the answers can be found.

No map is required to solve the Treasure Trail as the clues and directions are detailed enough to lead you around the route. However you are advised to get a tourist map from the Tourist Information Centre in case you do get hopelessly lost!!!!

Some directions are included within the clues whilst others are separate. If you come to a direction and have not answered the preceding clue then you have missed the answer and will need to retrace your steps and search the route again. The directions will lead you from start to finish even if you cannot find an answer. If you do get lost retrace your steps to the last clue you found and try again.

How to Submit your Answers

The answers are available free of charge on-line. Just click the Submit an Answer link on the location page of your Trail. Fill in your details including your unique payment reference number and the answer to the Trail. Click to confirm. Your answer will be automatically entered.

Whether you are right or wrong you will then be directed to the answer page for that Trail. The answer includes details of where each clue is located.

If you answered correctly you will be automatically entered into the competition. If you answered incorrectly you will not be entered into the competition. Remember - you only have one chance to enter the competition per unique payment reference number. To enter the competition to win the prize pot for a location a second time, you will need to purchase that Trail again and enter your new unique payment reference number with the correct answer.
