The South Molton Trail

South Molton is a busy rural town, situated mid way between Barnstaple and Tiverton on the A361 North Devon Link Road and within easy reach of Exmoor. Once a prosperous centre for the thriving woollen industry, South Molton is now a flourishing market town, with a busy Pannier Market on Thursday and Saturday mornings, where a variety of stalls sell produce, crafts and other local goods. The town's history originates in early Saxon times. The Museum houses two Royal Borough Charters granted by Elizabeth 1st in 1590 and Charles 2nd in 1684, as well as one of the oldest fire engines in the country. A specially adapted version of this trail including clues set within the Museum is available for purchase at the Museum.

The trail is approximately 1 1/2 miles long and takes around 2 hours to complete. Although it is all on paved footpaths, there is a long flight of steps, and so regrettably it is unsuitable for wheelchairs.
