  • YOUR CASE

During World War II, important secret work was being carried out near Bawdsey to develop England's first radar system for detecting enemy planes. In the middle of the night, Captain Diehard of the Home Guard, receives a call to tell him one of the scientists, Dr Doolallie, has been found dead. Diehard and his platoon need your assistance before they report to HQ. Can you help him solve the mystery of the boffin's demise?

    Secrets Around Shottisham

This scenic car Trail takes you through the unspoilt heathlands and forests of Suffolk's Sandlings. Three apparent dead ends reveal spectacular waterside views, abundant nature and a wealth of history. On the way from Melton to Bawdsey Quay, via Shingle Street, Hollesley, Shottisham and Ramsholt, you will pass close to Sutton Hoo, the Suffolk Horse Trust, home of the Suffolk Punch, and Rendlesham Forest. You will stop along the banks of the River Deben in two places and by a shingle beach.

Distance 20 miles. Duration 4 hours driving and walking.

    Suitable for light pushchairs
