YOUR CASE
The Viking warrior, Ivar Bloodaxe, pillaged all the local villages 1100 years ago. He was then driven off by a Saxon army, but only after hiding all his booty. Before he could return for it he was killed by Sven Sharpsword. Can you find where he stowed the gold and claim it for your own, just as the Staffordshire Hoard was found recently?
Elford
The village of Elford, lying north of Tamworth and east of Lichfield, is a hidden gem. There is almost no traffic, whilst the church has some of the finest effigies and monuments to be found. Many famous families have links to the village and have influenced its development. The walled garden of Elford Hall is currently being restored and there is an air of peace throughout.
A walking Treasure Trail, this 1.5 mile route should take around an hour and a half, but it can easily be extended with a picnic, a long stay at the playground, a visit to the church or a stop for refreshments. Two small gates mean that wheelchairs are not well suited to this Trail, but pushchairs can negotiate them. The Trail begins and ends at a small free car park.
