YOUR CASE
In the 1190's Bishop Hugo Nonant and his brother were accused of stealing the King's ransom that was raised to free King Richard I from captivity in Austria after he had been taken prisoner on his way home from the Third Crusade. They fled to the continent and on investigation, you discover that the missing silver coins have never been found. Your task is to locate the treasure, before it is lost for ever.
Eccleshall
The bustling small town of Eccleshall was once a vital staging post on the main London to Chester coach route. Look along the wide main street with its many inns and elegant Georgian buildings and it is not hard to imagine the horses, the passengers and the general scene of constant activity. Today, the town shows its modern face by having its own green power station, fuelled by elephant grass grown within a 30 mile radius. It is a place to enjoy at your leisure, a place to admire and let your imagination run free. It is also a very lively town with some elegant shops to enhance your visit. Only a few minutes from the M6 motorway, you are immersed in a true slice of rural England.
This is a walking Treasure Trail of approximately 1.5 miles that should take around an hour and a half to complete; it is suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are several excellent cafes en route and free parking as indicated on the map below.
There are also excellent bus connections to Stafford and the Potteries, allowing those who prefer travelling by public transport to visit Eccleshall in an environmentally friendly way.
