YOUR CASE
Abbots Bromley was owned by Burton-on-Trent Abbey until the dissolution of the monasteries in 1545. Whilst restoring an ancient building in the village, a scroll has been discovered telling of village monks burying the Abbey's treasure at night to keep it out of Henry VIII's clutches. You have to solve the clues in the document and locate the treasure, so what are you waiting for?
Abbots Bromley
Every step you take around this village brings new surprises. The houses and cottages form a harmonious picture of the ideal English village. Humble cottages, imposing Georgian mansions, half-timbered homes over 400 years old - they all give a sense of style to Abbots Bromley. With its unique medieval Horn Dance, fascinating church interior and modern amenities, there is so much to see and do. The reindeer antlers used in the Horn Dance have been carbon dates to over 1,000 years old - take time to view them in the church. After the Trail, what could be better than a very short drive to beautiful Blithfield Reservoir for a well-earned picnic in magnificent countryside?
This walking Trail is around 2 miles long and should take around 2 hours. There is one stile and a number of kissing gates en route, as well as some footpath sections over grassy fields, but in the main it affords easy walking throughout. There are several places where sustenance can be obtained and an impressive play area for younger Trailers!
