YOUR QUEST
On the eve of the siege of Nunney Castle a vast amount of cash called "diamonds", after the shape of the coins, was rumoured to be stored in the building to pay the soldiers defending the village. The money was never found and legend has it the Castle owner Col Prater managed to escape through a secret tunnel and hide the treasure somewhere in Nunney!
Can you discover where the "diamonds" are hidden?
The Nunney Trail
Nunney is a beautiful village steeped in history. The centrepiece is the spectacular ruin of medieval Nunney Castle, inspired by French castles seen by Sir John de la Mare on campaign. Managed by English Heritage, entry is free. The walls are largely intact and it is in perfect scale with its surroundings.
The Trail is about 1 1/2 miles long and will take between 1 and 1 1/2 hours to complete.
Part of the route is a lovely scenic section on a public footpath across fields and alongside Nunney Brook.
An alternative route is available if it has been raining as the path may be muddy.
Unfortunately the Trail is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
