YOUR QUEST

In 1821 Neil Hamish Menzies sailed away from Cumbrae, never to be seen again. Last year, a local fisherman found an old bottle in the sea. It contained a map showing an island in the Caribbean that Neil Hamish had discovered. It also contained instructions on how to find the treasure that he had collected on his travels and hidden somewhere on the island. Can you solve the clues and find the location of the treasure?

The Great Cumbrae Island Trail

Being only a 10 minute ferry journey away from Largs on the mainland, the Isle of Cumbrae has long been a popular destination for day trippers. The road around the island is cycle friendly, with a 30mph speed limit. It follows the shore and is very flat, making for easy cycling, and has many points of interest along the way. The interior of the island is hillier, but still offers some interesting walking and cycling options.

The dedicated Treasure Hunt Cycle Trail follows the shore road around the island, and includes a section in Millport which you would be safer solving on foot. The cycling distance is approximately 10 miles and you should allow at least 4 hours for your visit.
