YOUR CASE
In 1806 Iain Angus MacLean sailed away from Tobermory, never to be seen again. Last year, a local fisherman found an old bottle in the sea. It contained a map showing an island in the Caribbean that Iain Angus had discovered. It also contained instructions (see below) on how to find the gold that he had found in Tobermory Bay and hidden somewhere on the island. Can you solve the clues and find the location of the treasure?
Tobermory
The capital and most populous area on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory boasts a stunning location on the Sound of Mull, sheltered by an expansive bay. Its brightly coloured buildings conceal a wealth of treasures, many of which will be found on the route of this Trail. Famed for its rumoured sunken Spanish galleon somewhere in the bay, and more recently as the setting for children’s programme “Balamory”, Tobermory has much to interest both young and old alike.
The Treasure Hunt Trail takes you on a scenic circuit of Tobermory, exploring the harbour area, An Tobar and many of the village’s picturesque back streets. There is one steep climb (including steps) which, unfortunately, makes the Trail unsuitable for wheelchairs.
