  • YOUR CASE

While clearing out the former home of the late Bernie Evidence, a known embezzler, a map and associated clues have been discovered. It is thought that he was hiding some of his illicit goods and that the map could uncover their whereabouts. Can you solve the clues and find the location of the treasure? If you are successful you could win a prize!

    Newton Stewart

Newton Stewart is commonly known as 'Gateway to the Galloway Hills'. It stands as the main market town for the east of the Wigtownshire area.

Newton Stewart offers many and varied outdoor pursuits. Whether you are looking for hill-walking, climbing or just an afternoon stroll you'll find many walking opportunities. There is a riverside walk around the Sparling Bridge beside the Riverside Car Park where artistic way-markers, poems inscribed on stones and carved beech logs along the track provide unusual seats.

Cyclists of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to explore some of the region's richest and most diverse landscape, all within a relatively short distance of the town centre.

Running directly through the town, the River Cree offers some excellent salmon and trout fishing and nearby pony trekking and horse riding facilities are available. There is also a superb 18-hole parkland golf course with spectacular views from every hole.

Another claim to fame is that the horror movie The Wicker Man was filmed almost entirely on location around Newton Stewart and had its premiere at its cinema in 1972.

There is a wide range of shops in Newton Stewart, including 4 supermarkets. These cater for the everyday needs of locals and visitors alike, as well as providing interesting browsing for holiday gifts, souvenirs, crafts and clothing.

There is also a variety of hotels, restaurants, tearooms and coffee houses available to the visitor. All in all, well worth a visit!

This Treasure Hunt Walking Trail is about 2.5 miles long and should take approximately 2.5 hours to complete. It includes a steep part in its route, unfortunately making it difficult for wheelchairs though it should be manageable for pushchairs.
