Kilmarnock Town Centre
Kilmarnock is one of the most ancient and revered towns in Scotland. Named after St Marnock, one of the first Scottish churches was founded and established here, leading to many settlers flocking to the town for the love of the saint. This would ultimately result in a worldwide love affair with the town which continues to thrive to this day.
As well as enticing many visitors, Kilmarnock has inspired the minds of some of Scotland’s most regal of writers, painters, authors and poets, including the genius Robert Burns.
There are many attractions to Kilmarnock, Dean Castle being one of the best. This beautiful landmark houses a range of historic memorabilia, including impressive armour plated suits, weapons exhibits and examples of musical instruments. Both tourists and locals alike can enjoy the captivating beauty of its magnificent surroundings.
As well as the many monuments which have stood the test of time, there are also recently developed sights to be seen, the Burns monument in the extensive 30 acre Kay Park being one of them. A visit to the Dick Institute is a must for the artistically minded.
Kilmarnock offers locals and visitors a wide range of cafes, tearooms and hotels and has an extensive variety of shops to visit.
This Murder Mystery Walking Trail is approximately 2.5 miles long and should take about 2 hours to complete. It is suitable for pushchairs. There is a path with a steep incline on the way up to the Burns Monument Centre which would be difficult for those using wheelchairs. An alternative route would be to follow the road signs for this visitor attraction taking you further up the High Street.
