Navigating The Route

This is a circular Detective Mystery around Eaglesham Orry, Memorial & Village, with Detectives asked to investigate the murder of music producer Mick Sindesk, who was found in his wine cellar after a row over his mansion in the conservation village of Eaglesham.

The investigation covers approximately 2 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete. You'll begin at The Wishing Well Tearoom on Montgomery Street, near the top of the hill, then work your way through the village, The Orry, St Bridget's Church, Montgomery Square and the final stretch towards The Carswell Centre before returning to the start area on Montgomery Street.

This Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs. The route follows pavements and clear paths, but some of the pavements are very steep and there are some steep hills.

Take care when crossing Montgomery Street, use zebra crossings on the main road, and keep an eye on Mini Detectives around the stream through The Orry if you choose to continue along the path to Gilmour Street.

Getting There

By car: Start your investigation at The Wishing Well Tearoom on Montgomery Street, near the top of the hill (G76 0AU). Park along Montgomery Street near The Wishing Well Tearoom - you can park on either side of the road along here.

By public transport: Make your way to The Wishing Well Tearoom on Montgomery Street, near the top of the hill, to begin the case. The route is circular and returns to the start area on Montgomery Street.

The route follows pavements and clear paths, with steep hills, road crossings and a stream through The Orry if you choose the path to Gilmour Street. Keep canine colleagues close around traffic, water and busier village sections, and remember to close the gate when leaving St Bridget's Church churchyard.

Solving a music-producer murder can be thirsty work. You start and finish outside a cafe, there are a few pubs en route, and there is a convenience store in the middle section of the case near Clue 14.

The Orry

Eaglesham was constructed in an 'A' shape formed by Montgomery Street and Polnoon Street, with Mid Road connecting them in the middle. The distinctive triangular village green at the centre is known locally as 'The Orry', from the word 'area' - a cracking place to slow the pace once the evidence has been gathered.

St Bridget's Church

The route continues past Coo Lane to St Bridget's Church, where an information board shows two photos of Polnoon Street. The churchyard also forms part of the investigation, so take your time, explore respectfully and remember to close the gate when you leave.

The Covenanter Memorial

Montgomery Square brings Detectives to The Covenanter Memorial, with another nearby detail to look for in the churchyard. It's a good spot to pause and add a little extra local history to the case.

The Eglinton Arms Hotel

You'll pass The Eglinton Arms Hotel during the investigation. It was originally built as a coaching inn during the late 19th century and has recently been extensively renovated while retaining much of its old world appeal.

The Carswell Centre and the Gemmell Statues

The final stretch includes a stop at The Carswell Centre, where you can read about the 'Gemmell Statues'. It's a neat final extra before your squad loops back towards Montgomery Street.
