  • YOUR CASE

Sandie Beech has been rummaging through her late uncle's attic and has discovered that he had spent his last few years searching for a hidden hoard of treasure, supposedly left by a pirate ancestor. A rather tatty old map of an area around St Andrews' East Sands suggests that her uncle was close to finding the fortune. Can you help Sandie in her quest? You might win a prize!

    St Andrews East Sands

St Andrews sits in the East Neuk of Fife, accessed via the A91, the A915 and the A917. It is a stunning medieval city, the international home of golf and Scotland’s finest coastal town. In St Andrews you can visit an historic castle, a medieval cathedral and St Rule's tower which, if you can manage the 151 steps, offers a panoramic view of the town, the harbour and surrounding countryside. St Andrews is also famous for its University, the first one in Scotland, established in 1413.
Golfers flock to St Andrews to enjoy a round on one of the eleven courses, or to watch one of the many championships hosted here.
Others come to enjoy the two award-winning beaches, the cafes, shops, hotels and attractions. West Sands beach was made famous in the movie Chariots of Fire.

This Trail is around two miles long. It provides views of East Sands and the harbour. It takes you through the east end of the town centre, past the Byre Theatre, into the Eastern cemetery and past St Rule's Tower, the cathedral, the castle and university buildings. It is suitable for wheelchairs with some assistance and for pushchairs.
