YOUR CASE
Culross Music Festival was in full swing. Singer Carrie Oakey and her partner Dan Singh were about to perform an encore when the lights went out! In the darkness screams were heard. When power was restored two bodies lay on the stage. Can you help detective Laura Norder follow the Trail and solve the clues to work out who was the murderer and what weapon was used? You could win a prize!
Culross
In Culross you can step back in time to the 16th century. This effect is in large measure the result of the work of the National Trust for Scotland over a period of more than seventy years. Highlights include the 1597 Palace, restored to its original mustard yellow render and wooden shuttered condition. On the hillside above the village are the remains of Culross Abbey. The 1626 Town House with its 1783 tower is also a showpiece. However, what really makes Culross special is the way such a large part of the village is original, with narrow wynds and stunning buildings. Here you can begin to see what a 16th century village might really have looked like.
This Trail takes you through the centre of the village (the Mercat Cross) up to the Abbey and churchyard and around the back of the Palace with views of its "hanging gardens" (terraces). It ends in the square in front of the Townhouse. It is around one and a half miles and includes a steep hill and a long flight of steps. It is therefore regrettably unsuitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
