YOUR CASE
Legend has it that when Robin Hood and Maid Marian wed at St Mary's Church in Edwinstowe, Robin bestowed a special sword on his love. Upon hearing this the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham set about to steal it . Robin couldn't let this happen so instructed one of his merry men, Rich Pickings, to hide it away from the Sheriff's clutches. Rich was killed shortly after stowing it away but he left clues to where it could be. Your task is to solve these clues to reveal it's hiding place. Good luck!
Robin Hood's Major Oak
This is a walking Treasure Trail, through Robin Hood's town of Edwinstowe and the heart of Sherwood Forest, both steeped in legend and history. Edwinstowe is named after King Edwin of Northumbria's, whose body was hidden (stored, or "stowed") there after he was killed at the Battle of Hatfield Chase, near Doncaster, in 633. The village is facinating, while no visit can fail to include the walk to the Major Oak, a tree that is inseparable from the story of Robin Hood. The Trail covers 2.5 miles and is suitable for pushchairs, although there is a short flight of steps to descend near the start. The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is not open 24 hours daily, so a diversion is a provided.
The Trail should take approximately 2.5 hours to complete, and is a combination of exploring the town itself and Sherwood Forest, and all it has to offer. There are numerous shops and eateries in the town, with a large art and craft centre en route, plus the additional amenities at the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre. There a couple of car parks in the centre of Edwinstowe where you can choose to park.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
We bought the Major Oak treasure trail from you at Rufford Park Christmas Craft Fair and we have been waiting for the grandchildren to come and stay at February half-term to tackle it. Well, last week we had our opportunity and were so taken with it that we came straight home and ordered 3 more and are spreading the word amongst our friends and family. Well done - our ages ranged from 6 to 73 and we all thoroughly enjoyed it (though we were exhausted at the end and with all the things to explore en route it took us from 10 o'clock til 3 o'clock!). Our 9 yr old grandson made the comment that it made a walk much more interesting. The clues had just the right balance of difficulty to keep the youngest involved but also to challenge myself occasionally (a cryptic crossword fan!). A brilliant day out and we now look forward to their next holiday when we can try the Retford and Rufford Park Trails.
